@shahrukh_khan on Twitter is an IMPOSTER!

  By _ram-jaane' on March 12, 2009 11:52 PM | 2 Comments

"Really? What evidence do you have?" you might ask. HERE is your answer.

On January 29th this account @shahrukh_khan became quite a trending topic on twitter. I know many bundles of people joined just out of curiosity. Had the King of Bollywood joing the micro-blogging forum?

On January 31st when supposedly reputable news provider DNA confirmed this with the following tweet, many rejoiced.

With some hestitation, I too was hopeful. I asked a few people I trusted & that were able to enquire & investigate, especially since nobody else was confirming the news. My friends over at Bollywood Mantra even wrote a letter to SRK's company Red Chillies to which the account linked itself.

In a few days, things had calmed down. The odd tweet here & there were still emerging from teh account, but the imposter had slipped up. Any avid fan of the King Khan would know he would not be making banana bread. He's stated in interviews in the past that he hates cooking. The big fans understood & stepped back. I thought this would pretty much be the end of it.

Alas, this was not the case. It breaks my heart to 'still' see so many people genuinely believe this account is SRK himself. I am subscribed to the RSS feed showing the replies that this imposter gets. With a few of them I have responded, telling them, but now with concrete evidence, I just had to blog this for everyone to share. Many many thanks to Shak Siyya from Club Asia for asking on behalf of the Twitterville community & for allowing me to share this snippet with you of his interview with SRK confirming that he is NOT on twitter.

Lame excuse for why I fell behind with the blogging:

2008 - Summary of Q1

  By _ram-jaane' on March 31, 2008 8:31 PM | No Comments

Things that happened of note:

    • My xbox360 (that I've had it over 2 years) gave me the ring of death error. I thought I managed to fix it by overheating it but this only lasted 2 days, now I've sent it back to MicroShaft for repair. Thankfully the warranty was extended to 3 years due to this issue being so 'common' with the consoles, though I'm hoping they just replace it, rather than repair it, because then the manufacture date & serial number would be updated. I'm considering trading it in (& the newer manufacture date would hold higher value). Not sure though, if I trade it in with games for a PS3 it'd be just for the blu-ray factor, but I am unsure that COD4 will hold up as great an experience on Sony's 'free' multiplayer environment. From what I've heard from people who have both, apparently it's no patch on Xbox-Live. Decision pending

I've managed to keep all the stubs of my film tickets at my local CineWorld by folding the stub backwards & waving it for the usher to glimpse rather than tear. I though I would have only lasted a month or so but I have got through all of Q1. How long will it last? We'll see.

I have a system whereby my DVD's are organised with the films I haven't seen are sticking out on the shelves, I push them in once I've watched them. The ratio of seen/unseen was quite bad & remained stationary for quite a while (months rather than weeks). Over the past month or so, I've made a point of fixing this & started actually watching them, recent films I've pushed in are: Almost Famous, The Pledge, The Lost Boys, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Three to Tango, (& The Pianist this evening, hopefully), one of these days I may even have a full shelf of pushed in films. Optimism roaring through .. again, we'll see.

At work, my site had been blocked by the BlueCoat application they were using to filter out blogs and personal pages that aren't "work-related", this did take a knock on my readership from fellow colleagues, however this week it has been re-classified by the software as "Arts & Entertainment" meaning it's unblocked again. I'm not sure if this is my doing (renamed blog to blargh) or if my begging to Tech Services guys at work actually yielded some pity, perhaps a bit of both, but anyway -- end result, I'm Back for your lunch-time entertainment! ;)

My lame-ass attempt at a webcomic finally formulated after I went to the UKWebComixThing and saw a large number of such examples. I figured I should give it a shot since I've been going on about it for almost a decade now. I'm cheating by using screen captures, but I'm a child of divorce, give me a break. I've put the first one up, but since I'm not in the swing of regular updates, I'm not making any promises or publishing it as all-out public quite yet, just a sneak peak.

Somebody I work with, (though not directly), turned out he has 4 novels under his belt, a couple of which have become screenplays, all under my nose. He even has his own little WikiPedia article: (Darren Smith). Naturally, I made contact as soon as I found this out & discussed aims, aspirations & he made the same point that I keep making to myself, do some more work, get it done, get it done completely.

Which brings me to the 'online' screenplay, I still intend on getting it done by end of year, but the weekly updates are unrealistic, I feel. It seems to come in bursts & not of just 3 pages, plus I'm focussing more on another project at the moment which I'm going to remain tight-lipped about. Just keep an eye on the file if you're interested. I'll try & mention when I do upload an update in the posts.

  • From my new year aims, I'd say I'm doing more than 50%, but I could be doing more. I've read 1 book a month & stuck with the weekly word idea, so I'm reasonably happy with the way things are progressing especially with the film festival seasons coming up ahead ... :) ..but I do have that inner nagging that I could be doing 'more'.

I may do a separate post for the film releases of Q1 & what I saw/missed next week some time.

Well .. I know a lot of people that read web comics. In fact in my drafted Links Page which I'll publish over the coming days, I have a section, specifically for webcomics. It's a quick and easy entertainment medium. I find that the followers, all fellow geeks like myself, will reference them in conversation quite often.

So, one such comic that I used to read back at university LittleGamers. Done by 2 guys in Sweden. They have my sense of humour & so it was a pleasure reading them. I lost track of them once University was done with, but reacquainted once I again found myself involuntarily spending a whole day in front of the computer in my full-time job, when one of my old friends sent me this link saying it reminded them of me.. (I won't explain, but they're right to think that.)

So in a nutshell these guys have been doing these comics for a long time now. So, when I read a little note a couple of weeks back about this convention in London that they'd be attending, I thought I'd pop along, pay my respects and whatnot. At this stage what did seem a little odd to me is that the event hadn't hit my radar. I mean people like me keep an eye out for stuff like this, especially in London, but it just felt odd that I'd found it through a page made in Sweden.

Once I went to the event I could see why. It was small, badly labeled directions to get there, generally I'd say the organisation was terrible.. but who cares, what I was there for was present & that's LittleGamers. I finally met Mr. Madsen whose work I'd been reading for many years. Mission Accomplished. I even took a picture with him ...

I had a look around at some of the other stalls but I gotta say I wasn't impressed. This is not at all a dig at the comic-stall holders, I'm sure a lot of good work was there, it just wasn't presented in a way where it could shine & for this I totally blame the event organisers. Firstly each stall needed more space, secondly they should have been given some sort of stands to display their art, thirdly they should get it advertised. If it was made larger they could probably get sponsors too.

If I was one of the artist & flew in from another country to this crap, I would not be impressed, but the impression I got from the comic artists present was that, they expected this to suck, to them it was more a social adventure, meeting fellow artistes & all that. A lot of the people knew each other from going to such events & this meant the after-event social environment at a pub round the corner was a lot more fun than the convention itself. I joined them & was made to feel welcome amongst many strangers. Overall, I returned pretty chuffed about having attended.

Though this will appear in my Links page when it's done ... I'd like to give a shout-out to these people that impressed me (in no particular order): AndersLovesMaria - Edible Dirt - Little Terrors - Gold Fish Bowl

If you have a webcomic that you think I'd like feel free to contact me & I may add it to my feeds .. ;)

    Peace

Hopefully this will be a temporary & short-term thing, while I work out how to hunt down & assasinate the spammers with my sweet nunchuck skills & bow hunting skills etc etc ..

Okay seriously .. the issue is this, my swanky new host Thinkivity have informed me: The script (/usr/bin/perl -w mt-comments.cgi) was using more than 50% of the servers CPU and more than 80% memory usage. More than 20 instances of this script were running at the same time.

If this continued it was likely at some point the whole thing would crash, as had done in the past while I was with Fuitadnet (except them buggers didn't know why & just restarted the server). So I need to take some serious measures to stop the spamming. - Investigation Pending.

Frontpage updated. looks sweet in IE and a scrambled heap in Firefox, probably due to some css error or form defaulting left alignment or something .. working on it.

    New Web Host - Thinkitivity

      By _ram-jaane' on December 3, 2006 11:46 PM | No Comments

Well I shopped around some and have settled with a new Web Host, they're called Thinkitivty, and so far they've been top notch, i had a couple of minor issues during setup, but they saw to it pretty much within the hour (on a Sunday). So Yea, fair to say I'm impressed.

While switching over I also took the opportunity to upgrade Movable Type to version 3.33 from 3.31, this has caused a couple of problems rise, which I am in the process of investigating, as always should you find any bugs, please please do let me know.

At the moment it appears that when rebuilding entries or archive pages it decides to set the CHMOD values of these to 666 rather than 755 - this brings up an error, as a workaround I am curently resetting the values to 755 until a proper fix is found.

<-- edit --> Sorted this one. 666 was the default, needed over-riding .. new functionality i think + it also hold for uploaded files which makes sense, so randoms can't upload shite and run it without your consent .. not that i let you guys upload anything anyway ;) <-- end edit>

I know my front page is currently a mess but new swanky superstuff is en-route so fret not :)

After attending the cambridge film festival hastily with little preparation to the even, this time going to keep tabs on this one:

The 50th Times BFI London film festival runs October 18 - November 2. (Yes - SRK's Birthday)
Full details of this year's programme will be announced on Thursday September 14. So Keep your eyes open!

The Last King of Scotland, a bizarre and brutal account of the reign of the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, will open the 50th London film festival on October 18th. Last year's opening night film, The Constant Gardener, went on to win awards at the 2006 Bafta and Oscar ceremonies. The Last King of Scotland spins the tale of a young Scottish civil servant who becomes hopelessly embroiled with the regime when he becomes Amin's personal physician. Forest Whitaker stars as Amin, while the physician hero, Nicholas Garrigan is played by James McAvoy & also stars Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame. The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald, who won a Bafta for his 2003 documentary Touching the Void.

The Last King of Scotland is based on the prize-winning novel by the Guardian journalist Giles Foden. "I've been very lucky to have such a good team working on the book, from the producers involved in the development to two brilliant scriptwriters" Foden said today. "And I knew as soon as I met Kevin and we discussed the adaptation that he was the right man for the job." He added: "I saw the film myself a month or two ago and was very impressed. I think they managed to get to the heart of the novel and reproduce its sensibility. It was a real boon, too, that the film was made on location in Uganda, which gives it an added authenticity."

"The Last King of Scotland is a perfect opening night film for us," said festival director Sandra Hebron. "[It is] a compellingly original British feature from an imaginative and talented young director."

RoyalBlue is a 'gorilla' .. Buy Buy Buy!

      By _ram-jaane' on August 4, 2006 12:55 PM | 2 Comments

So I finally got round to reading this article sent to me a few days back regarding the company I work for.

In a nutshell: Royalblue’s (RYB) core Fidessa system provides electronic trading software for equities. The company also provides market data terminals and a connectivity network, and last year launched an execution management system for buy-side companies as well as developing a derivatives trading platform that launched during the first half of this year.

The idea is to continue to add asset classes to the system, starting with derivatives. The company announced today its first customer to take both the equities and derivatives trading software, Insinger de Beaufort. Broker Bridgewell says that the shares at this price are not exactly cheap, 'However, the strong top-line growth recurring revenue profile and excellent market position mean we are comfortable with our Overweight stance.' George O'Connor, technology analyst at Shore Capital said: 'While this is a premium rating, we see few companies with a similarly robust business model with gorilla characteristics in their core end markets and where the revenue visibility helps to de-risk forecasts. We retain our Buy recommendation.'

    Citywire Verdict:
There is a huge amount of momentum in electronic trading across the globe and Royalblue, having already carved a strong niche in cash equities, looks very well placed to add derivatives and further instruments types. The network will add exponential strength to the whole offer, and while it may be nerve-wracking to buy at the current price, take a longer term view.

This means our price rises. Yea .. wherever I go there is progress - me stud me!Evidence in addition to the above is that the current share price is 808 .. it was 649 when I started!!

Register just the once for a TypeKey account ... You can use your real email address if you wish as it won't show up on your comments. Check mine out on this post to see what I mean (if you're bothered).

The main advantage of this is then I can add you to a trusted list & your posts will show immediately without me having to verify them. Other advantages like free weapons of mass destruction were false advertising. We don't actually have any *(that we wish to share).

    Getting registered is pretty straightforward:
"If you have a TypeKey identity, you can sign in to use it here. " <-- click on the sign in bit & follow the instructions.

The advantage for me is I don't have trawl through so much spam, once you're all done, I think I may just have trusted commenters able to comment & if you want to become one you send me an email with your TypeKey username, but shall see with time.

    London 2005 ... *updated*

      By _ram-jaane' on July 7, 2005 11:13 AM | No Comments

    Some vague importance ..

A series of bomb attacks on London's transport network has killed more than 30 people and injured about 350 others. Three explosions on the Underground left 33 dead and an unknown number died in a blast on a double-decker bus.

The BBC's Frank Gardner said Arab sources said the blasts were probably the work of al-Qaeda. London's police chief said traces of explosive had been found at one site. Early reports had suggested a power surge could be to blame for explosions on the Underground but this was later discounted.

08:51 Seven people die in a blast on a train 100 yards from Liverpool Street station
08:56 21 people die in a blast on a train between Russell Square and King's Cross stations
09:17 Five people die in blast on a train at Edgware Road station
09:47 An unknown number die in a blast on a number 30 bus at Tavistock Place

Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes, near Kings Cross, told Five Live: "My only thought in the midst of all this confusion is that after the celebration of yesterday (for the Olympic 2012 London success) for people to be evil enough - if it is the intentional causing of death and injury - and think that they can justify this in any circumstances is completely unacceptable."

An Islamist website has posted a statement - purportedly from al-Qaeda - claiming it was behind the attacks. US President George Bush told reporters at the G8 Summit in Gleneagles that "the war on terror goes on."

All London Underground services & Bus services have resumed in central London (Zone One) with diversions in affected areas. Most mainline train stations are open. Hospitals have said they are no longer accepting non-emergency cases.

Next door neighbour was fixing something under his car when it caused some kind of chemical reaction between chemicals that shouldn't have been presnt which caused the explosion. He was badly injured {major burns} & taken to hospital. I believe he still is being kept there.

    P339JBC

The explosion set the whole car alight & the fire spread & set mine alight too. I have made a point of offering any help to the neighbour if required. Wasn't the best of times but I did introduce myself to the remainder of the family as I hadn't ever spoken to them before.
