Harold & Kumar
Escape from Guantanamo Bay'
Runtime: 100min 22secsTagine: This time they're running from the joint.
Written and Directed by: Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg
Plot Outline:
The newest adventure of Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) pretty much picks up where the last one left them. We follow the pot-smoking duo, this time, to a cross-country adventure as they try to outrun the authorities, who suspect them of being terrorists when they try to sneak a bong on board their flight to Amsterdam.
Overall Impressions:
The lovable idiots haven't changed & nor have their adventures per se, but it is a laugh a minute adventure if you appreciate this brand of humour.
Personally I wasn't a large fan back in the day, when the first one released, however upon repeat viewing I've loved it & though I thought a sequel was a bad idea, they've proved me wrong. In fact, if the writing were to remain consistent or better itself as it has done in this instance, I would welcome another chapter with open arms.
What I will say is that the title/synopsis are perhaps a little misleading, the escape actually occurs within the first act of the film, what follows is the pursuit of cleansing their name of the fake accusations.
Certainly not for everyone, but those that know what these characters are about (very little) & enjoy this brand of mayhem, they will be glad to know, the quality has not dropped as is the trend with such sequels as a general. Top-notch!
