When a meticulous structural engineer Ted Crawford (Anthony Hopkins) takes the liberty of shooting his wife in the head and confesses soon after, the young and sharp district attorney Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling) who is on the move to a much higher & prestigious firm decides to accept one last task of prosecuting him. Little did he know that this wouldn't be a simple open and close case.

As Ted is found innocent of the attempted murder of his wife Willy becomes a crusader for justice.

Overall Impressions:
The tagline really does sell this film, it gets you intrigues and through the door. So the question is does it keep you engaged with twists and turns throughout? Short answer: Yes. This is not about a kool psycho like Hannibal Lecter. I had heard people say "Oh, Sir. Hopkins is playing Hannibal again!", nah, not at all. The only common ground it has with the character of Dr. Lecter is that the guy commits murder and he's smart.

This film is about how everyone has a right to exercise and manipulate the law to their advantage, provided it meets the necessary criteria, and this is what keeps you interested throughout. The little loop holes each side jump through to reach their goals, but within the necessary guideleines.

A cat and mouse thriller that keeps you well .. thrilled. :) (7 out of 10)
